Message from the Directors
Since the beginning, CIMVHR's mission to enhance the lives of Canadian military personnel, Veterans and their families by harnessing the national capacity for research has been at the forefront of our decision-making and direction. Annually, we work with our stakeholders to ensure we are addressing new challenges and determining ways to address the research needs of those who have served and are serving. With a strong network of collaborative individuals, this work is possible. Throughout this report, you will see the strength of CIMVHR’s network and the outcomes of its collaborative spirit.
During 2021/2022, the pandemic still had a substantial role in keeping everyone at a virtual distance. CIMVHR took this as an opportunity to create new relationships and solidify existing ones. The Legion Veterans Village (LVV) is the latest organization to join CIMVHR's network of research institutes. LVV is an integrated Centre of Excellence for Veterans and public safety personnel focusing on post-traumatic stress disorder, mental health, and mixed medical and rehabilitative services. In addition to LVV, CIMVHR and the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPSRT) spent time cementing the importance of their existing relationship and determining future direction for collaboration. We look forward to supporting and moving research forward with these organizations.
This past year, supporting military personnel, Veterans, public safety personnel and families throughout the ongoing pandemic has also been essential. To do so, we turned our annual Forum into a thriving virtual event that ran over five weeks and attracted over 1200 participants. The Journal of Military, Veteran and Family Health (JMVFH) continues to deliver online open-access research with its annual five issues launching. Two of these issues were special editions focusing on chronic pain, and sex, gender and intersectionality.
As CIMVHR has recently seen organizational changes, we want to recognize the service and commitment to CIMVHR from Major (Ret'd) Yvonne Cooper, CD and Dr. Dianne Groll. Their contributions and leadership at CIMVHR have not gone unrecognized. We wish them well in their future endeavors.
On behalf of the entire team at CIMVHR, we thank all our stakeholders for their endless commitment to advancing health research for our military, Veterans and their families. At CIMVHR, we will continue to work tirelessly to impact the health and well-being of this unique population, and this is only possible with the collaboration of our many stakeholders.
Thank you - for serving those who serve us.
